WAYS TO WEAR ANKLE SOCKS IN WINTER

WE'RE all familiar with socks and sandals - some of us (me) more for them than others - but when it comes to winter, sandals take a bit of a wardrobe backburner. It's all about an enclosed shoe and sometimes tights just ruin the colour scheme or the proportions of a look. Which means only one thing: you're going to have to brave a bare leg and if a bare foot just won't do (it will in fact look too summery), then the way forward is with a black ankle sock. Yep, it's time to hark back to school days and add a loafer or brogue while you're at it - for they were the flat shoes of choice on the autumn/winter 2014 catwalks.

There's something grown-up about the look too - exposed ankles look like they weren't thought through, again a schoolgirl error. Not to mention the pinches of pain that will be felt as the cold bites at them. Ouch.
You can't go wrong with plain black when it comes to the socks themselves. And this should be your go-to. But try out sheer black variations too, or those with a little (emphasis on little) or considered detail. Remember, the rule is to maintain a sense of sophistication. As soon as it feels too Year 6, it is.
